Malmberg has won its first biogas upgrade project in Italy. To the customer HERAmbiente S.p.A, which today has an existing composting plant in Sant Agata (BO), will be supplemented with treatment and digestion of 135,000 tonnes of food waste per year. Biomethane will be produced using Malmberg Compact® GR 20R. Capacity is 1000 Nm3/h and the customer estimates to produce 7,500,000 Nm3 environmentally friendly biomethane per year for the Italian gas network.
HERAmbiente has done a thorough evaluation of technology and the choice fell on water scrubber. Malmberg won the tender due the fact that can show good references from plants where the substrate is food waste, which requires robust and reliable technology that produces gas reliably, and can show with its high availability figures proven from extensive experience with over 100 biogas upgrading plants around Europe.
Italy is a large gas market with a gas network that extends across the entire Italian peninsula. There are more than 1000 gas filling stations and more than 900,000 gas cars running on the Italian roads already today, so the infrastructure is already there for the environmentally friendly biogas.
“We see very positive on the Italian biogas market and are pleased that we now also can make a green footprint in Italy”, says Erik Malmberg, CEO of Malmberg Water AB
